Senior Bridge Design Engineer

Sigma Consulting Group, Inc., one of Baton Rouge’s “Best Places To Work”, is looking for a Senior Bridge Design Engineer in our Baton Rouge office.

You will play a pivotal role in the design, analysis, and construction of bridges and related structures. Your expertise and experience will be essential in leading and managing bridge projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality, safe, and cost-effective bridge designs. You will be responsible for overseeing various phases of the project, from initial concept development to final construction.

Your Primary Responsibilities will include:

1.     Bridge Design and Analysis: Utilize your engineering knowledge and specialized software tools to create innovative and efficient bridge designs. Conduct thorough structural analysis to assess the bridge’s stability, load-bearing capacity, and response to dynamic forces. Review project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, client contract requirements, and related specifications.

2.     Project Management: Lead and manage bridge projects from inception to completion. Develop project plans, create schedules, and establish manhour estimates to ensure projects are completed within budget and on time.

3.     Team Coordination: Collaborate with a team of engineers, technicians, drafters, and other professionals to develop integrated bridge design solutions. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers to enhance their skills and professional development.

4.     Code Compliance: Stay up-to-date with relevant building codes, regulations, and industry standards for bridges. Ensure all designs adhere to safety and quality standards set by regulatory authorities.

5.     Design Optimization: Continuously seek opportunities to optimize bridge designs, considering factors such as material efficiency, environmental impact, and long-term maintenance costs.

6.     Technical Reports and Documentation: Prepare detailed technical reports, design calculations, and construction drawings. Maintain comprehensive documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

7.     Site Visits and Inspections: Conduct site visits and inspections to assess existing bridge conditions, identify potential issues, and recommend appropriate remedial measures. Conduct construction phase engineering, including periodic on-site reviews in collaboration with Construction Service team.

8.     Client Communication: Interact with clients, government agencies, and stakeholders to discuss project requirements, address concerns, and provide progress updates. Maintain and document written and verbal communication with clients throughout the development and completion of a project.

9.     Quality Control: Implement rigorous quality control processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of bridge design deliverables.

10.    Innovation and Research: Stay informed about emerging technologies and advancements in bridge engineering. Apply innovative approaches and best practices to enhance project outcomes. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

What you’ll need:

1.     Minimum of 8 years of related experience in bridge design and analysis, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.

2.     Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from a 4-yr accredited college or university with a focus on Structural Engineering or a related field.

3.     Professional Engineer (PE) license required, with ability to obtain this license through reciprocity in Louisiana and Mississippi.

4.     In-depth knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.

5.     Familiarity with LADOTD or MDOT a preference.

6.     General structural design experience (slabs on grade, retaining walls, structural steel) considered a plus.

7.     Proficiency in structural analysis software such as Bentley LEAP Bridge or OpenBridge, STAAD.Pro, MathCAD or similar tools.

8.     Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software

9.     Advanced knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project required.

10.     Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

11.     Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders.
